Atahualpa 3 coming soon

UPDATE 10-11-2008: PLEASE BEAR WITH ME WHILE I AM SLOW WITH ANSWERING QUESTIONS. I *really* want to bring this update out of the door, and it’s been quite a bit of work…ย

If you’re just starting out with the Atahualpa theme hold on before doing too many customizations and wait for the next version which I’ll release within a few days. This took longer than expected but it’s coming to an end now.

It will have drop down menus and a new layout technique without the “dropping sidebar” issue. Also theme options broken down into several pages, fixed, fluid and hybrid width (fluid within min/max boundaries) a few fixes and localization. It’s a complete re-write and most customization tips posted on this site will not work/apply anymore or won’t be required anymore.

I will also try to answer the remaining questions within this week.

In the categories widget on the l/h/sidebar I have a couple of posts that I do not visable there. They have their own text link on the r/h/sidebar. (totally different subject matter so I wanted them totally seperate). Anyway, I have looked through and tried to find where I can stop them being shown on the categories sidebar widget – but still available to the public via a text link.

Any ideas.

One more question – sorry.

3. Lisa:

Thank you Flynn,

How easy that was.

This template is just so cool.

I love it and will be changing my other sites to this as well.

It’s the best thing I’ve seen.

4. Flynn:

@Lisa: 89
See Atahualpa Theme Options -> Sidebars
You can turn off the sidebars based on page type and based on individual page ID’s as well

5. Lisa:

I am still finding my way around this great template. Such flexibility and all without messing around with code. Just what I needed.

One question which I am sure someone will be able to answer for me.

As this template has no page.php, how do I go about creating a new ‘parent page’ without the sidebars. I have a forum on the site and when it is selected I want it to take up the whole site (obviously not the header and page links thereon).

I would really appreciate a little information on this, if you would be so kind.

Lisa

6. admin:

@Bonnie 87:

The default pages widget doesn’t have that option but this one seems to have http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/flexi-pages-widget/

7. Bonnie:

Thanks for your responses… I’ll watch for the update! But I’d really like to do something to eliminate the sub-pages from the sidebar menu, as I’m anticipating LOTS of subpages, and the menu could get very long… Can I edit the php somewhere?

8. admin:

@Bonnie 85

Do you mean in the sidebar? There’s no option to show only the top level of pages or categories in the sidebar however you can set set the links to be all in line and not intended (which does not work in 3.0 but will in 3.1)

If you meant the horizontal menu bars for pages or categories, there’s an option to show only X levels in the theme options “Page Menu Bar” -> “Depth of Page Menu Bar” or “Category Menu Bar” -> “Depth of Category Menu Bar”

But those don’t stick either in 3.0, but will in 3.1

9. Bonnie:

Hi – another question… I’d like to set the side menu to NOT show subpages. I don’t see anything in the options pages to do that. Am I missing something? Thanks…

10. Bonnie:

Hi – another problem… the options seem to reset every time I make a change in the “Atahualpa theme options” section… Nothing is sticking. I’m sure you know about this already…??

Bonnie

11. Chris:

wp2.7 Final is unleashed … looking forward for atahualpa 3 to unleash it’s power ๐Ÿ™‚

12. Nikko:

Is there any way to make the navigation menu at the top a drop down menu with sub pages? Also once the top line menu is full does the menu automatically start another menu line beneath? Thanks for a great theme.

13. EasyMoleRemoval:

Hi I am currently using this theme at my website! Check it out at http://easymoleremoval.net !

14. Shafique:

Can’t wait for the new version. This theme is awesome. Thanks!

15. Mrunal:

Do you think there will be a provision to have Ad- banners in version 3?

16. Paul Hodorogea:

WE, ALL ‘d like to know WHEN aprox.

17. simon:

Very excited to see the next incarnation of Atahualpa! Been hoping for the update… since it was announced.

18. Bart:

I had that same issue and no one ever answered it for me. But I tried again about a week after I used the ‘more’ tag the first time and it works fine now. I use the ‘more’ tag frequently.

Beautifully would be if there was possibility not propisuvati will name blogu and to put in place of picture, that separately Logo Icon and separately Logo name.
Dorechi I succeeded zorganizuvati a falling out menu on this theme

20. Andy:

I am seeing a strange issue: when I add a “more” tag to a post, the page breaks, with the right sidebar moving over and showing up on top of the main content. http://andyliotta.com/test/

On this test site, I can’t seem to add a more to either post without breaking the page. On my live site, I was able to add a more tag to the second post, but if I do the same on the first, it breaks. (I’d show you, but don’t want the live site out there broken.)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And if this is an issue fixed in the upcoming release, I can wait a little while.

Thanks!

@beautymakeupdivas.com #71

look for dotted and dashed and replace with solid in style.css and style.php

22. Mrunal:

im waiting for your new version………when is it coming ?

23. beautymakeupdivas.com:

I want to replace the minus lines separating the panels with a single line.
how to do that?
thanks.

24. andy:

That’s great! Thanks for the fast response. (You have saved me hours of work. After some hours of poking around I was able to make the old code fixed width, but had not yet succeeded in centering it. Now I can stop and wait.)

I will check back for news of the release.

25. admin:

@andy 68

version 3.0 will have fixed, fluid and hybrid width, I am almost done

26. andy:

I love the Atahualpa theme and its great flexibility. Looking forward to the update.

QUESTION: I have be going nuts trying to figure out how to make atahualpa display with a fixed width. will this be an option in the new version? If not, is there a simple way to do this? (I have tried adding a div wrapper in index.php as well as redefining “page container” as fixed width class. Neither seemed to wrok.)

Good luck with the release!

27. Joseph Karwat:

Any chance you can post an update. It’s been over 6 weeks since you posted any notes.

32. Leo:

Starting to use 2.21 and just clicked here to post a question. Now I see that ther’s a newer version coming soon. Is it released yet? Will I have to reset everything that I’ve been workin on? Also, I do I remove the ‘meta’ area that has the Register, and Log in?

33. beautymakeupdivas.com:

Love this theme, take a look at my site.
I am using it.

34. Tim:

Looking forward to seeing 3.0. It’s hard for me not to take 2.21 and start customising it for my new site I’m launching. I’ll just have to wait patiently.

Tim

35. Jorge ORejel:

Atahualpa 3 coming soon ???

36. Gayle:

Thank you but someone of the forum answered my question already and the problem is fixed.

I did not know but I was copying and pasting from “word” and this was the problem.

I just wanted to let you know so that you dont go to any bother with it – its all resolved.

AND I am looking forward to The new version 3 of this theme because its really very good architecture and I really appreciate it. you guys have taken the time to design really well.

Thank you
Gayle

37. Gayle:

I dont know what happened to this post… because I posted it 12 hours ago and I had thought I was post 53. So I am re-posting it again because I am in desperate need of help.

I am only new to word press and bloging and have just set up my first blog using the Atahualpa theme. I have found this theme to be an absolute dream to work with – fabulous to use – easy to set up and i havent had any problems with it at all… I’ve got all my own banners rotating – its just beatuiful!!

It seemed to be working very well in firefox and then when we tested it in Internet Explorer 7. It cuts short the entire post, it has all the sidebars missing, you cant get into the blog or parts of the blog at all and it gives a message which reads: “” right where the end of the excerpt should be.

So I’m coming to you guys because you invented the theme and because I have no idea where I need to go or what I need to do to get help. I’ve googled it, yahoo’d it, wordpress codex’d it, put it on the forum at wordpress and I’m not getting an answer. I can’t find any information on it anywhere on the net.

I havent fiddled with any php or any code – I havent needed to.

So I dont know if this is a known bug and you have an easy fix or even whether I have set something up wrongly. To date I have only activated podcasting plugin, the all in one SEO (which I havent set up yet) and the stats off the wordpress.com site. The adress is http://www.instantfengshuitips.com

Please help
Gayle

38. Gayle:

Hi There,
I am very, very new to word press and bloging and have just set up my first blog using the Atahualpa theme.

First of all I want to say that I have found this theme to be an absolute dream to work with – its fabulous to use – very easy to set up and I havent had any problems with it at all… until today…

It seemed to be working very well in firefox and then when we tested it in Internet Explorer 7… it cuts short the entire post (after the heading), has all the sidebars missing and gives a message which reads: ““.

I honestly have absolutely no idea why this is happening because this theme seems to work like a dream for me – in every way!! Its been very easy to customise – just very good architecture and I guess, because I am so new to this I have no idea why I am getting this error message. I dont know if I have done something wrong, if I have accidentally set something up wrong?

I haven’t fiddled with any of the php or code – havent needed to…!!!

(And I don’t necessarily think there is a problem with the theme at all because its been so easy to work with. I am ultimately coming to you guys because you guys have created the theme. I know you’ve probably got way more experience than me… You may be able to recognise the error code and can point me in the right direction to fix it…!!!)

I dont have the experience to even know what I need to look for… to get the help I need. I’ve googled it, I’ve yahoo’d it, I’ve checked on word press codex and I cant find any information on this error message.

To display the site on Internet explorer 7, you seem to have to fiddle around with it, click several time (which doesn’t always work immediately in terms of bringing up and displaying the blog site… using the clicking around method you might be lucky to get the site in three, four, five goes of clicking).

So I’m just wondering if anybody can please help.

The blog site is http://instantfengshuitips.com.

The only modifications I have done is added podcasting, wordpress stats, and added all in one SEO (which I havent fully had the chance to set up yet)

I would appreciate any help you could give

Great! Looking forward to it.

40. Me!:

I love your theme and I hope the new release will be available soon.

41. tcounts:

I’ve added the Pages widget to the left side bar and my client HATES the way the it looks. They’d like the subpages to be indented more or be a different font size than the parent page. Is there any way to do this??? The code seems to be the same for both parent and child links.

Other than that, LOVE the theme!

42. john:

I love this theme that you have created and i’m not trying to be rude or anything so hopefully no one is taking it that way and i see a lot of people are asking the same question but when is this new version going to come out anyway? how does a “few days” end up being a little bit more over a month since this post was created? Anyway just wanted to chime in my questions and hoping that this update to be up soon so I can get my site up and running with those features you mentioned.

44. Doggie:

Love your theme so much…
When could we get version 3?

45. SharkGirl:

I have Tiga theme on my main blog, but it stopped working when I installed the WordPress MU version. My blogroll refuses to be seen. I searched a similar three-column theme that I could find as close to the Tiga theme as possible. That’s where your theme comes in.

The problem I’m having is that no matter what I change, I can’t get the background color or page container to register the changes I made. Even if I change your style.php, it still doesn’t show up that I made a change. I want to make modifications so the layout looks as close to this theme as possible: http://facingthesharks.com My test site with your theme is http://sharkgirl.facingthesharks.com

What are you using to pull in the style settings when neither the style.php nor style.css are registering changes to the site’s design?

46. Donal:

Apologies, seems like my sidebar issues were caused by my adding in the right sidebar on attachment.php and using the wrong order of divs.

Still looking forward to the next version though. Good things come to those who wait, eh? ๐Ÿ™‚

47. Chris:

WordPress 2.7 Beta 1 just released – If you need someone for a testrun – I will be ready ๐Ÿ™‚

48. KittyFireFlash:

I found your template the best suited for our needs. I am also looking forward to seeing the update. It is easy to control and also loads quickly. There is a problem with the way it formats comments though and also for one of the plug-ins for the dynamic language translation that exists with the current version. See http://ebay.dybteam.com/ This site is used to assist people who’s language is not english. The main site is http://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/

We can’t have translation there and saddly at the moment wordpress.com is not yet offering your theme. They should! You will see what I mean about the comment formatting if you check the stories category for the two sites to compare.

I hunted a long time for a good tempate that would do the job and Atahualpa is it. Using a panel for customizing instead of monkeying with code is brillent – light years ahead of most themes!

I can understand you must feel about working on the new design while balancing your other commitments. Same story here, managing the two sites while holding a day job too.

49. Rasmus Spendrup:

I just spent 4 hours trying to make the drop down menu work. I was really happy to read that it will be fixed in the new version.

Keep up the good work!
Rasmus

50. Tannat Madiran:

best template out there, period.

i have read through most of the comments here, so forgive if i overlap…

ability to change background colors?
ability center blog title?
assign a category to a page button on the top menu?
ability to employ banner ad rotation/management in the graphic header space (valuable real estate there)…

am i asking too much from an already awesome and free template?

51. What I desire:

I love your theme, and I am really looking forward to the update. Thanks a lot ๐Ÿ™‚

52. Joseph Karwat:

I am ready to launch my new site but have been waiting until you publish the new version. Any update on when you think you will have it out.

It’s a great template, and I look forward to using it.

53. Brad:

Great theme, I get lots of compliments on it from our visitors. The drop downs will make it an even better user experience. I look forward to the new version very much.

~~ Brad

54. Nikko:

Has anyone used a flash header (swf) at the top instead of the images? Would like to get feedback on that if possible.

Nikko

55. Nikko:

This is a fantastic theme and you have made it adaptable. Congrats and thanks. Looking forward to the update.

Nikko

56. Joe Lafferty:

brilliant theme! do you have a date for v 3.0?
keep up the good work!
Joe

57. Vincent:

I love the great theme, very easy to work with and customize the site. What’s the progress version 3.0?

58. Doggie:

Cool! Supports u!

59. Bart:

I, too, love this theme. I do, however, have a problem with using the ‘more…’ tag on posts. The full post looks fine, but on the main page the sidebars crunch into the middle column and overlay the middle column content. Any help with that?

60. Rob:

Still looking for a solution to my visual editor tab breaking with Atahualpa 2.2.

The part that seems to not work is when the page is rendering and gets to the following code:

//

// <![CDATA[
edCanvas = document.getElementById(‘content’);
// If tinyMCE is defined.
if ( typeof tinyMCE != ‘undefined’ ) {
// This code is meant to allow tabbing from Title to Post (TinyMCE).
document.getElementById(‘title’).onkeydown = function (e) {
e = e || window.event;
if (e.keyCode == 9 && !e.shiftKey && !e.controlKey && !e.altKey) {
if ( tinyMCE.activeEditor ) {
if ( (jQuery(“#post_ID”).val() 0) ) { autosave(); }
e = null;
if ( tinyMCE.activeEditor.isHidden() ) return true;
tinyMCE.activeEditor.focus();
return false;
}
return true;
}
}
}
// ]]>

61. MICHAEL JAMES HAWK:

Thanks for the great work! Question: With this theme, it makes the sidebar ITALICIZED just on the landing page, not the permanently-linked pages, and also, weirdly, teh h1 titles and body text turn ITALICS too on the landing page, but 2/3 of the way down! Why is this? I have supressed all plugins, tested in other browsers, and this bug remains. Thanks!

62. miguel:

hellow
well, im not speak english, but i really want to do a question
how can i change de atahualpa’s background color? i want to my website’s background color be black
no white

thanks

63. ~summer~:

Hi there. I just started using 2.21 and love it. Am looking forward to your rollout of 3.0. THANKS!

64. Pandacan1011:

Hopefully, this new theme will allow us to put the top menu navigation inside the rotating header via OPTIONs…

65. Gary:

I really need to install a paypal subscription button on this wp theme. Is there any special place where I can insert the Paypal generated HTML?

66. Rob:

Has anyone ever had problems with Atahualpa in WordPress MU 2.6+ where, in the Write > Posts editor, the Visual editor tab only shows what the HTML tab is supposed to display?

I’ve got this problem right now with the latest version of Atahualpa. I know it’s the theme because I’ve exhausted all other troubleshooting paths. It’s only by changing the theme to something completely different that I can get the visual editor to work correctly.

I know v.3 is coming out soon, but can you help me with this? It’s pushing back our site’s launch date.

Thanks.

67. hodek:

Can specify the approximate terms of output of Atahualpa 3?

68. Jason K:

I’m new to WordPress and I’m interested in using the theme for my business site. Do you know when V.3 will be released. Sorry…I don’t mean to pressure. Just anxious to get the site up. Take care and thanks for this theme.

69. John L:

When linking from SCRIBD documents and other documents, the left sidebar jumps to the center column of the page.

70. Tony:

@Ann: You can drop a sidebar. In Atahualpa 2.21 (and earlier I think), in the Atahualpa Theme Options, you can choose the width of the sidebars. It’s written “Put 0 here to make the left sidebar dissapear. You’ll have a 2 column layout then.”

@Steven: Lightbox2 works on my blog. I have Atahualpa 2.21.

Flynn, thanks for the awesome theme!

71. Donal:

Great theme, and like everybody really looking forward to what else you are going to add. I’m using it on http://www.swingdancecork.com and I have been customising it show gallery pics in the sidebar as shown by this kind chap, perhaps something to include on a future version?

I’m almost there but I have one problem. On the individual photo page e.g. http://www.swingdancecork.com/photos/decadent-dolls/20080909_9999_33/, the sidebar gets pushed down. I’ve read on the WordPress forums that this is to do with sizing issues. I think I’ll wait until the new version comes out as you say that this should sort out the sidebar issue.

72. Alan Kellogg:

Don’t forget Feedburner. Seems to be the defacto subscription service/subscription service aide these days.

73. iwanydotcom:

hi friend,

just said that i like this themes , but could you please tell me if i want to have 2 sidebar, (3 column )

warm regards
iwanydotcom

74. Ann:

I forgot to mention that when I have the SEO turned on and I check my Google Page Rank, it returns a message saying that the page rank seems forged. When I turn the SEO off, that message goes away. I don’t use any other SEO plugin. Any idea why I would get that message?

75. Ann:

This is great. I’m hoping there’ll be more options for changing the look, like the background colour and the borders without going into the CSS file.

Also an option to put both sidebars on the same side or to drop one altogether would be great.

Even if it’s not in this update, maybe in a future one?

This is one of the best themes out there for customization.

76. R:

I am really looking forward to the drop down menus. I was about to implement another plug in but will wait a little until the update comes. Love the theme, have not needed to do any customisation apart from the images and a few plug ins. Danke.

78. Blake Imeson:

This theme is one of the most powerful WordPress themes I have seen. When is the new one being released?

Thanks for your work!
Blake

79. Tom Guilmette:

Flynn,
Thanks for all your hard work on this theme. I am sure many of the custom code you gave me per my requests are now user selectable via theme designer in the new 3.0. Website: http://www.tomguilmette.com

One question though. Will the upgrade over right everything? Will I have to redo everything on my page if/when I make the switch to 3.0?

Thanks again,
Tom

80. John:

Will it be possible to display only โ€˜parentโ€™ pages in the left hand side bar? So โ€˜childโ€™ pages remain hidden until their โ€˜parentโ€™ is clicked???

New to this so maybe I’m missing something but cannot persuade โ€˜wp_list_pages()โ€™ to have any affect at all.

Loving the theme though and looking forward to version 3.

81. Joachim:

Hi,
I tripped over your theme on Google by fluke. A very stylish state-of-the-art theme, it took a few second only to come to the decision to update my blog. I am looking forward to the next update, especially for the localization.
Cheers
Joachim

I can’t find wp_title(”); in header.php …please can you add that as I am using Headspace plugin to control the titles.

83. Keri:

Great! Looking forward to it.

84. Paul Hodorogea:

hey, when it’s gonna be? ๐Ÿ™‚
I can’t wait. I am addicted to your template.
Made a very good job ๐Ÿ™‚ thanks.

85. Steven:

Hopefully Lightbox2 Plugin works in this version. Now it conflicts!

86. David Galindo:

This is great news! I love the current version and can’t wait to see what’s available in the new version.

87. andi:

I love the theme and i already added a drop down menu – i should have waited ;o)

88. Chris:

Will the upcoming release be ready for WordPress 2.7?
I read a blog that their is something changing http://planetozh.com/blog/2008/09/get-your-wordpress-theme-ready-for-27/

89. christy:

Hi thanks for your work, I really like this theme. Dropdown menus in the new version sound great. When I install the new version, do I have to re-do my whole site? Sorry for the naive question I’m new at this.Also, how do I change the color of the little dashes?
Thanks,
c

90. Jim McGuffin:

Nice.

I love the width of your middle 3-columns. Lets face it today most screens are wide now and not square anymore. I hate these theme where the main/body is very small width-wize.

91. Karen:

Thanks for the info – I love the theme – but will hang on before going “live” with it
K.

92. Chris:

great news – I’m waiting for that ๐Ÿ™‚

93. glitch @ Mobile eBooks Etc:
