I answered all open questions as far as I can see. Within a few days I should have installed WP 2.5 along with a neater system to test and showcase the current themes in various WP versions up to 2.5) and on a huge sample blog loaded with lots of content to test all kinds of real life blog situations. After that I’ll release my newest theme (white, 3 col., drop downs) and finally I’ll update the existing themes with some maintenance fixes, like missing next/previous links, some floating issues and others.

Greetings,
RE: Bytes for All SEO Question
Love your theme. I’m using version 2.21 as the theme for my organisation’s website.
Wondering if you had any suggestions for me… I’m having difficulties figuring out what settings to use either under Design > Atahualpa Theme Options or what to add to the header PHP file that will make SE results display the blog title before the page title.
In the theme options, under meta tag title format, I’ve got the following option selected: Blog Title – Page Title. The search engine results still just display the page title only, I’ve given it a couple weeks to see if there was a change and there hasn’t been.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I need to set one of the “pages” I’ve created as the home page. Then to make the blog accessible it’ll have to be a link at the top of the page like one of the normal pages link. Incidentely I’ll want this named “Whitepapers”. Need any more instructions, be happy to supply. Know just enough coding to be dangerous, but not to fix this. Paypal donation will follow a fix. MANY THANKS in advance.

Jean-Luc G: I just pulled the page source on your site and when I put a beginning comment tag right after your “blogroll” header in what I assume is supposed to be your left column, the right column worked fine – it jumped back up to where it should be. I didn’t put an end comment tag at all, so it just stopped at the next end comment. The word “blogroll” is still in the wrong place – way over next to the right column, overlaying the center text. I suspect that if you go through and narrow that down you’ll find at least some of the offending code. You may also need to check the CSS on the left column divs to make sure it’s landing where it’s supposed to.
Yeah, I found it interesting that we’re into similar stuff. I might be interested in a sample of your microorgs. If you want to continue this thread, email me through

Hi, Bill C., I’m glad to see that your into composting, on that point I have microorganisms that can break down compost in 4-6 weeks and it is sooo good for the soil but getting back to the Athualpa theme point, when I use IE the columns are in their right places but only start after the main body. I tried the content in the categories drop downs smaller so that they fit the column width but still, no go. I am using the Athualpa2 theme but it was the same with Athualpa1 theme.

Follow up: I think it’s not your theme, but the plugin Ajax Edit Comments – I’ll post there…. thanks!
September 25th, 2008 at 11:55 am
HI, I love the Athualpa theme, but I’m having trouble editing a minor things…. I’m using Ajaxed WP and Members Only plugins, and they seem to play nice, but I can’t seem to find where and how to edit the little footer inside the comment box that says “EditModerateSpamDelete” – the words are all jammed together, and I like some other themes that have little icons there… I have no idea where these words exist, so I can’t change them. I also had a little trouble changing the comment form reply from “Leave a Reply” to “Comment on Original Post”, but I found out that Ajaxed WP needed to let the theme put the text there…. is that the same problem I’m having with the “EditModerateSpamDelete” links? Still, I can’t even find them to edit them! I talk tough, but really I’m a newbie, so be gentle… thanks!

Jean-Luc: IE 6 has some problems with the sidebar display – On some pages they’re displaying far down the page. See http://www.sustainablesources.net/SS_Atahualpa_screenshot1.jpg and http://www.sustainablesources.net/SS_Atahualpa_screenshot2.jpg for screenshots, or email me for details.
The only thing I can identify as a possible problem is that I’m displaying some long URLs there which are wider than the column width. I suspect you’re having the same problem I am. I don’t have IE6 here to test with, but if you’ll take a look at the left sidebar at http://www.sustainablesources.net/?page_id=85 with whatever browser is breaking for you and it *works*, then the width is the problem. And let me know, as it’ll be at least a day before I can re-test myself.
Try shortening your dropdowns – it looks like they’re running over.

What have I done…?
I upgraded to Atahualpa 2.21 and I am still having trouble with the Left and Right columns. the Left col. is on the left side of the Right col. and the Right col. starts after the end of the middle col..
I tried adding more content to the middle but the Right col. just moves down and the Left col. just stays on the left of the right col.
Please help.

@Ron: The post heading color is an option in version 2.21. The text color in the sidebars could be changed by adding the following to style.css, preferably into the main section “SIDEBAR STYLES” to keep it organized:
#left-column, #right-column {
color: #cc0000;
}
to make the text in sidebars red. If you didn’t mean the text color, the link colors in the sidebar can be set on the options page in version 2.21

@Sean: I am very sorry, I somehow missed your comment. The author can be displayed by adding
<?php the_author(); ?>
somewhere into the theme, i.e. into index.php, into the postmetadata section, between
<p class="postmetadata"> .... here .... </p>
or below the post title, after
<?php the_title(); ?></a></h2>
The same would have to be done in single.php, archive.php, search.php and page.php if you want to display the author name there, too. I will include the author as an option in the next version.

Hi
How do I change the colour of the post headings and the colour of the items in the sidebars (not the sidebar headings).I looked everywhere to change these but can’t figure it out.
Great theme.

Hi, I’m using your theme, which I love, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to show the author of the post. Am I mistaken? Please advise, and great work on this theme.

Hi, I just started a new blog and am relatively new at this. I’m using your Atahualpa theme and am wondering how I change the images at the top of the screen?
Thank you!
August 10th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
@Martin Timmermans:
Upload a new image named “bgimage.jpg” with a width of 1280 pixels or wider and a height of 100 pixels of taller to /wp-content/themes/bytesforall/images so that you end up with
/wp-content/themes/bytesforall/images/bgimage.jpg
There’s a more detailed Howto (README.txt) included with the theme Bytesforall

Hello,
We are fairly new regarding webblogging. We have a weblog now on wordpress.com but intend to host one on dreamhost to have more features available.
Your ‘Bytes For All’ theme seems to be exactly what we need and want. Fluid width, easily and highly customizable a.s.o.
However it is not clear to me how and where we can change the header image and what properties the image should have (pixel size, format a.s.o.) It does not show up in the options panel?
Could you clarify me on this?
Kind regards,
Martin Timmermans

To add the default next/previous links, find
<?php endwhile; ?>
in index.php
and add this:
<div class="navigation">
<div class="older"><?php next_posts_link('« Older Entries') ?></div>
<div class="newer"><?php previous_posts_link('Newer Entries »') ?></div>
</div>
To add the WP PageNavi plugin, add (at the same place) instead
<?php if(function_exists('wp_pagenavi')) { wp_pagenavi(); } ?>
To add both, so the theme can fall back to the default links in case you remove the plugin sometime, add this instead:
<div class="navigation">
<?php if(function_exists('wp_pagenavi')) { wp_pagenavi(); } else { ?>
<span class='older'><?php next_posts_link('« Older Entries'); ?></span>
<span class='newer'><?php previous_posts_link('Newer Entries »'); ?></span>
<?php } ?> </div>

hello again–widget/sidebar problem fixed!
I have one additional question . . . there appear to be no links for previous posts at the bottom of the page . . . I’ve tried adding page numbers with plugin WP Page Numbers which is supposed to show pages numbers instead of “Next page” and “Previous Page.”
I appreciate any help you can give.
thanks!

Hi–I really love the look of Atahualpa. Now that I’ve activated it, the problem is that my right sidebar does not appear. No right sidebar appears at all. Left sidebar, no problem. It consists of two widgets.
Right sidebar consisted of 6 widgets. None showed up. I eliminated all right widgets, thinking the default right sidebar would appear again. Nope, nothing. Added back two widgets. Nothing seems to appear on site.
Also, I have more than 100 posts. Only a handful appear on site–with no indication that others are available.
Do you have any suggestions?
thanks very much,
Mary Weaver

@Ash: Doesn’t look as if you’re using widgets in the left sidebar yet. Once you drag & drop the first widget into the left (or right) sidebar, all default content should dissapear. You have the default contents in the left sidebar still (Pages, Archives, Links).
To manually remove the Archives section from the default left sidebar, open the file
/wp-content/themes/bytesforall/sidebar.php
and delete the following code, which should be at lines 35-38
<h3 class="widgettitle">Archives</h3>
<ul>
<?php wp_get_archives('type=monthly'); ?>
</ul>

Yes, me again, with another question. The site is looking great and again, I’m thankful for the ease of the customization you provided!
I am creating a static front page. I do want a few things in the sidebars, but, one thing I don’t want is the “Archives”. No matter what I do it shows up, although it doesn’t show as one of the widgets being used.
I am assuming it is part of the theme sidebar?
Is there coding I can delete or change to remove it?
Thanks!

My apologies, I see what you are saying…added content allowed the scroll bar to appear. Sorry to be annoying! Thanks again. 🙂
June 26th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Thanks, but I am still having problems with no side scroll bar. The weird thing is I uploaded the theme to my other site and the side scroll bar is there. I have no idea what to determine as the solution for this.Any thought?
Thanks,
Ash

@Ash: You don’t have enough text to fill the screen, that is why the footer runs across the screen. Once you add content the footer should be pushed downwards. You can get some filler content here http://www.lipsum.com/ and see how it looks then.

HI, I just started using your Bytes For All theme and have a few questions. I do not see a side scrolling bar on the site, as well, the footer bar runs across the middle of the screen, the bottom third of the page under the footer is the same color as the background I chose.
What can I do to fix this?
I need to be able to change my header image and all colors for the site I am working on (love your themes!) Would it be better to use one of your other themes instead of this one? Or are these small issues that can be fixed?
Thanks!
