  9. Bonnie:

HUGE sigh of relief… Thanks for the advice. First I reset everything; no help. But I deleted the old version completely from the server, and replaced it with the new one: bingo! I had tried to keep the old version because the newer ones weren’t working, but I had renamed the folder for 3.17 to atahualpa317 and there was apparently a conflict. Even the flash preview in the themes page didn’t work right until I had made the changes.

Now to play around with the new site… πŸ™‚

  10. Flynn:

@Bonnie: Click “Reset” on the theme options page to delete the existing options from the options table, delete the existing themes/atahualpa3/ directory from your wordpress installation and upload the new version 3.1.7. I am sorry to hear about your troubles but the newest version seems to work well for the most part, certainly much better than the 3.0 that you’re running now. Maybe the existing (and possibly messed up) options in the wp_options table are the reason. Clicking “Reset” should delete them.

  11. Bonnie:

By the way, I’m not a complete newbie – I have several sites running WordPress, and usually manage these things with no trouble… In addition, although I sometimes have to work on a slow connection these days, other site changes (changing themes on other sites, or adding plugins – even on this site) go without a hitch. So I really am confused!

  12. Bonnie:

    Help… I am REALLY frustrated… πŸ™

I’m stuck on version 3, because every time I try to activate one of the new versions, the styles all go to h in a handbasket, images don’t load completely, nothing works any more at all. I’ve deactivated plugins to no avail…

I’d really like to upgrade the theme, and would be MOST grateful if anyone has any ideas what I’m doing wrong. I’ve tried uploading via FireFTP and Cyberduck, just in case something is going wrong in the transfer, and have re-downloaded the file several times from this site. Nothing seems to work…

    Snif…

  13. Steve Vale:

    Thank You Flynn,
If I can do it any one can. You have my website URL, if you can find the time have a look in 48 hours .

    Thanks again

    Steve

  14. Flynn:

@Steve Vale: You wouldn’t have to change anything. The theme options are an optional feature for those who want to customize the theme. If you don’t want to customize then the theme should be as hard or easy as any other theme. If you DO want to customize the theme should be easier than most other themes.

  15. Steve Vale:

    Thank You Flynn,
I should not have mentioned PHP it was just meant as am illustration of my level of ignorance.
So recognising the fact that I have very limited computing skills would you say that I can just up load this theme and get it to work for me. I obviously would not be looking to alter anything because I would not know where to start.
    Thank you for your patience.

  17. Flynn:

@Steve Vale: It is supposed to be easy to customize, without editing the PHP. If you saw PHP edits in the comments or anywhere then it probably was related to bugs in former versions or further customization that users wanted to do beyond the existing 215 theme options.
That’s not to say that the options couldn’t be better and easier to understand. I will try to improve that gradually throughout the next versions.

  18. Steve Vale:

I do like the look of this theme but would you say it was for some one that has just found out how to transfer PHP, in other words someone that is not very computer literate.

  19. Flynn:

    @Bonnie: 7
There’s currently no option for change or slide in/out the XHTML tags but might be in a future release. For now you’d have to edit comments.php (for WP 2.7) or legacy.comments.php (to edit/remove).

  20. Flynn:

@NLC: There’s a POT file included in the new version Jesse Jarzynkahttp://wordpress.bytesforall.com/?p=64

Please let me know about your translation here so I can include it in the next release

    @Flynn

Works in a charming way. Thanks πŸ˜€

  23. NLC:

I need to translate in Italian.
    How i can do this?
    Where is the file .po?

  24. Joseph Jobson:

forgive me, i have found the settings for the sidebar width..
fantastic theme, i will definitley send a donation

  25. Joseph Jobson:

I was a bit dissapointed that i could not seperate pixel settings for the sidebar, is there any chance of making a version with the seperate width settings for sidebar on the layout?
Great theme though, used on all of my sites.

  26. Bonnie:

Ok… have been working on it. But it doesn’t seem to stick… reverts to the first, muddled version. I also couldn’t find a place to remove the “XHTML: You can use these tags” before the comment box (and my “these tags” doesn’t do that cool show/hide thing that yours does…)

  27. Bonnie:

Duh… thanks for the gentle hint. I didn’t take the time to explore everything in the options page – which is an amazing thing in itself! Will do so… πŸ™‚

  28. Flynn:

@Bonnie: You can add an edit link via the “Post/Page Info Items”. I have not released 3.1.7 yet as I want to do a bit more testing with all plugins turned on and options changed. Here is one of my current test sites: http://wp27.bytesforall.com/ – I am just turning everything on, this is not meant to be visually pleasing

  29. Flynn:

@soulstaker: You can sort the top level alphabetically, at “Page Menu Bar” -> “Sorting order of Page Menu Bar” but that will probably not sort the sub menus

  30. Bonnie:

Two problems: I couldn’t even get 3.1.3 to work, so can’t help with testing… after activating it in the admin panel, the homepage tries to reload but hangs on the call to piclens lite…?

Also – is it possible to add an “edit this” to the tags bar? It’s a bit roundabout to have to go to the admin panel and select posts->edit, etc…

Waiting for the next update πŸ™‚

  31. soulstaker:

Is there a way to organize sub-pages alphabetically on the pages menu?

  32. Brandon Seppa:

My upgrade from 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 went off without a hitch. As expected, I had to reimplement some changes I have made to functions.php, header.php, index.php, and functions/bfa_header_config.php.

I have been changing themes every few weeks for as long as I can remember. I am done. This is the best theme I have ever used.
